Today is the first day of a new journey in my life. The journey to pay off a huge credit card debt just ended (literally, today, just ended), and it’s time to take a new path.
I’ve long been drawn to see the world. But not just see it – experience it.
I don’t want to see it as an American. I want to see it as a person.
I want to go to the places that most people miss, because they are too busy following an itinerary.
I want to find the spots that only the locals know about.
So, I unveil this website, Don’t Call Me a Tourist, to follow this journey.
Because more than anything, I don’t want to be called a tourist.
| tourist (ˈtʊərɪst) | |
| — n | |
| 1. | a. a person who travels for pleasure, usually sightseeing and staying in hotels |
So, technically, I will BE a tourist – but I refuse to call myself that. I’m a journeyer, a wanderer, a gypsy, if you want – but never a tourist.
The first journey begins at the end of May – but until then I’ll regale you with tales from journeys past, as well as prep for that trip.
